Making sense of mathematics through reasoning and communication in the primary school
Professor Berinderjeet Kaur
National Institute of Education
Abstract: Reasoning and communication is a critical mathematical process through which learners make sense of the mathematics they work with. Therefore, it is imperative that teachers engage learners in mathematical tasks that facilitate reasoning and communication. This institute will introduce teachers to several strategies teachers may adopt to do so. Drawing on simple textbook questions, participants will craft suitable tasks for their students to review and apply conceptual knowledge and make sense of it through reasoning and communication.
This online institute will take place over two afternoons on 15 and 16 March 2021, 2-5pm. (Total: 6 Hours)
Fee: SGD 90 for AME Members, SGD 100 for general public.
