Welcome to the Mathematics Teachers Conference 2026, organised by the Association of Mathematics Educators (AME), in collaboration with the Mathematics and Mathematics Education Department (MME) at the National Institute of Education (NIE). This year’s conference is centred on the timely and thought-provoking theme, “AI in Mathematics Education: Reality and Possibility.”
As artificial intelligence continues to transform the ways we live, work, learn, and teach, mathematics educators are increasingly called to engage thoughtfully with both its opportunities and its challenges. MTC2026 provides a platform for teachers, school leaders, researchers, and practitioners to come together to reflect on how AI is already influencing mathematics classrooms, and how it may open new possibilities for teaching, learning, assessment, and professional practice.
We are deeply honoured to welcome our Guest-of-Honour, Professor Chang Chew Hung, Dean of the Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning (GPL) at NIE, to grace this occasion. This is an event jointly organized by the Association of Mathematics Educators and the Mathematics & Mathematics Education Department of NIE. Both Head MME and President AME appreciate the dedication of the MTC2026 Organising Committee and MME colleagues in putting together a rich and engaging programme for participants.
This year, we are privileged to host an outstanding line-up of distinguished speakers who will share their expertise and insights from diverse perspectives in mathematics education and educational technology. They include:
- Professor Chen Wen Li (Nanyang Technological University)
- Dr Max Stephens (University of Melbourne)
- Professor Ng Oi-Lam (The Chinese University of Hong Kong)
- Dr Dawn Ng Kit Ee (Nanyang Technological University)
- Professor Zhu Tianming (Nanyang Technological University)
Through keynote addresses, workshops, paper presentations, and professional sharing sessions, participants will have opportunities to explore innovative ideas, practical classroom applications, and emerging research related to AI and mathematics education. We hope these conversations will inspire educators to think deeply about the evolving role of mathematics teaching in an AI-driven world, while continuing to nurture reasoning, creativity, critical thinking, and human connection in our classrooms.
On behalf of AME, I warmly welcome you to MTC2026. May this conference be a fruitful occasion for professional learning, meaningful dialogue, and renewed inspiration as we work together to shape the future of mathematics education in Singapore and beyond.
